CBD and Sarcoma: What you Need to Know

CBD and Sarcoma: What you Need to Know

In July every year, the world beams its searchlight light on Sarcoma – soft tissue and bone cancer that affects lots of people across America and the world. July is designated world Sarcoma month and the recognition is expected to create awareness about the condition, educate and help people who may be at risk find help early.

Although the condition isn’t as common as some other forms of cancers, it is still as deadly and affects individuals of all ages. According to the American Cancer Society, over five thousand Americans are at risk of dying from the condition in 2021 and another over ten thousand new diagnoses are expected in the same timeframe.

What is Sarcoma?

The term Sarcoma is an encompassing catchphrase that describes a group of abnormal tumors that develops in soft tissue, muscles, and bones. The growth can happen in any part of the body, it is debilitating, and can become deadly if it spreads to vital organs.

There are several types of known Sarcomas (these are the fairly common types) and many others for which doctors are uncertain. The most common types are soft tissue Sarcomas. Osteosarcoma – Sarcoma that develops in the cells that form bones, Liposarcoma, Sarcoma that occurs in the legs, and Leiomyosarcoma, a common type of Sarcoma that develops in the soft tissues of the bowel of an adult. Others include:

  • Osteosarcoma – Develops in cells that form bones.
  • Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) – Develops in the skin.
  • Fibrosarcoma (fibroblastic sarcoma) – Develops in fibrous tissue.
  • Chondrosarcoma – Develops in cartilage.
  • Ewing's sarcoma – Develops in bone cells or immature soft tissue.

Symptoms are usually dependent on the location and the type of sarcoma, however, general symptoms of the condition include pain, swellings, nodules, and weakness.

The AIDS-related version of Kaposi sarcoma can be aggressive if it is not treated. It can form sores on the skin, spread to the lymph nodes, and sometimes affect the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, heart, and other organs.

Sarcoma like all cancers is a menace. CBD can help although not everyone agrees on how effective it is.

Sarcoma Treatment and CBD

Sarcomas are treatable but doctors advise that early detection is the key to a successful treatment. Treatment therapy includes radiation therapy and sometimes surgery to kill and remove the primary tumor and metastatic tumors.

CBD also has shown great promise as a therapeutic option for the treatment of Sarcoma, especially for individuals who cannot withstand the trauma of radiation treatments and surgery or those seeking a more natural path to recovery.

Several pieces of research have concluded that CBD possesses properties that can help patients find relief from cancerous tumor growths and in some cases experience total freedom from nascent to advanced tumors. CBD's potential antitumorigenic properties are well documented and the substance has recorded significant success in the treatment of various neoplasms through a variety of mechanisms and signaling pathways.

Because CBD interacts with the Endocannabinoid system (ECS), it can influence the body to effect measured changes in metabolic activities, including inhibiting the proliferation of malignant tumors wherever they are found in the body.

A Case for CBD oils

CBD oil has proven efficacy for a range of conditions. Although researchers are still trying to understand the precise molecular mechanisms by which CBD mediates these effects, they agree that the substance is able to influence psychological and metabolic effects that help return the body to a state of balance – homeostasis.

It is believed that it is an imbalance in the workings of the body system that causes the proliferation of diseases and viruses. And if CBD can correct this, then it can support the body to repair itself.
